Welcome to Goodman's Greenbriar Farm

Welcome to Goodman's Greenbriar Farm, a picturesque Irish Dexter Cattle Farm nestled in the heart of Charlestown, Indiana.

Experience the beauty of our farm and the charm of our beloved Irish Dexters.

Irish Dexter Cattle are known for their small size, hardiness, and gentle temperament.  They are a triple-purpose breed, valued for their lean meat, milk, and draft capabilities.  They adapt to all different regions and to various climates, efficient feed conversion, and docile temperaments-even the ones with horns! (The horns are original traits...and here at Greenbriar, our herd has horns; we've only recently started introducing polled genetics into our herd).

Irish Dexters have distinctive colors including, black, red, and dun, and their dual-purpose nature makes them valuable for meat and milk production.  They are the perfect pairing for small homesteads!

Irish Dexter Cattle have been around several hundred years, with their origins traced back to Ireland in the 18th century.

Our Irish Dexter herd hailed from Canada, when in 1976 Jack Goodman travelled from Jerome, Idaho to Canada to purchase his first three Dexter's.  The Goodman's have carried this genetic line since.  In 2022, Jack passed away, and Mark and I inherited the herd.  We quickly went to work finding land, building corrals, and getting there herd transported from Jerome, Idaho to Charlestown, Indiana.  You could say we built our homestead around "the Dexters".

 Greenbriar Farm & Mercantile

Simple. Farm. Life.

Greenbriar Farm sprung from a vision. A vision born in a small, over-populated suburb. After feeling trapped in a crowded and loud environment, we started searching for a better way to live and spend our time.   A year later we found ourselves transplanted on a two-acre micro-farm we named Greenbriar Farm.   In 2022, we inherited our beloved Irish Dexter's.  We quickly sprung into action looking for a larger parcel of land that could accommodate the herd.  We found our present site, a 24-acre parcel, nestled in the heart of Charlestown, Indiana.

After getting the first corrals built and a place to shelter the cattle, we set our sites on building a home.  Up to that time, we travelled nearly 50 miles a day to attend the cattle.  After a year, our home was finished and we moved on site.  Since then, we've increased our pastures, built a tool shed and office; a home, added a chicken coop and three Great Pyrenees dogs named Bernadette, Chloe, and Buddy!  CeCe is our house dog!  Our little homestead continues to grow! Please join us often and watch our progress.  Mya will be adding a store where our local community can purchase quality Irish Dexter Meat (all natural beef-grass-fed); Organic eggs; fruit and vegetables (to come); hand-crafted silver Jewelry and local artesian products; and much more.  These are our goals-to efficiently provide quality beef, milk, eggs, cheese, local artesian products, and possible health food products to our neighbors and community.

Please join us on our journey~
