There is Christmas Cheer in the air..and that’s no exception here at Goodman’s Greenbriar Farm.
Last year was incredibly hectic, and Mark and I were called away in November for a family emergency. We didn’t make it home until around December 12, 2024, and by that time my holiday cheer was on empty. I threw up some ornaments and the tree and made it a happy Christmas for my family and my Mother-in-law, who had moved in with us (very long story).
This year, we have her settled in her own place, and she’s happy and well taken care of.
I’ve vowed to start decorating early this holiday season, so I can enjoy my time in the kitchen baking (I really want to learn to make sourdough bread), and just soaking in the long winter days in peace with my family. In the past, I was that person who made a very strong rule to not start decorating until after Thanksgiving was over. But now I understand the importance of starting early and getting ‘er done! It’s just way more enjoyable! And thank goodness for Amazon!!
My shopping is done, most of the packages are wrapped, and all I have to do is tag them with the names (and hopefully, I remember who’s package is who’s, otherwise, it may be a big surprise as to who gets what)!
As far as taking it easy in the winter, there is still much we can do to spruce up the farm. We have big trees down that need cutting up, and woods to clear. Marks been working on fencing, which always needs upkeep. We reduced our herd, as we are being more selective on genetics. As we build it back up, it will be with only the best Irish Dexter genetics, and more pulled than horned (although I still love the horned cattle, they’re beautiful in my eyes). We will be adding some Angus to the farm also!
So what are some of your holiday traditions? Have they evolved or changed over time? As you age, are you finding that you are decorating less?
No matter how we see ourselves growing or changing, I think it’s still important to remember that it’s mostly about making memories for our children and grandchildren, so that when we are gone, they have those memories in their hearts , to share and to remember.
May you all be blessed!!
Merry Christmas to all, from Goodman’s Greenbriar Farm.
